The House of Serge Rafflin
Between tradition and modernity, discover our family estate near Reims.
Our region
The 32 plots of our 7-hectare vineyard are located partly in the terroirs of Ludes, Chigny-Les-Roses, and Rilly-La-Montagne, classified as Premier Cru of the Grande Montagne de Reims, and partly in Lagery, a magnificent village in the Ardres Valley.
Champagne's three iconic grape varieties flourish there.
Pinot Noir brings structure and power, Pinot Meunier provides suppleness and fruitiness, and Chardonnay offers freshness and finesse.
Serge
Serge, our grandfather, a ninth-generation winegrower, had a different idea about his life. His actions in the Resistance gave him a taste for commitment. In a destroyed post-war France, he quickly felt the need to unite with his fellow winegrowers so that everyone could make a decent living from their work.
Thus, he participated in the birth of the Chigny-Les-Roses Wine Cooperative and the Nicolas Feuillatte Wine Centre in Champagne. Very involved in the politics of his region, he was also the first in the family to make and market SERGE RAFFLIN champagne.
Denis
Denis, our father, quickly joined him in the vineyards, learning the precise gestures of the winegrower and the subtle art of blending from him, then decided to develop the commercialization of the family brand.
He followed in his father's footsteps and, in turn, presided over the Chigny-Les-Roses cooperative for 18 consecutive years, where he developed the Quality and Environment departments.
In his free time, he enjoys photographing the Champagne landscapes he loves so much. He will retire in 2025 and continues to offer his valuable advice to his children.
Benjamin and Naomi
Recently, my sister Noémie and I (Benjamin) joined the estate to continue the family tradition.
We share the work: Noémie takes care of the vineyard side, while also daily ensuring the quality of our grapes in the strictest respect of environmental standards.
As for me, I am in charge of business development and communication. You can also find us on social media, where I enjoy sharing the different phases of our work with you.
We now combine humour, passion, and innovation, and are happy to present our new collection: La Griff' by S.Rafflin.
Vineyard work
We pay particular attention to our vines, favoring manual work, faithful to traditional methods.
Throughout the seasons, every action counts: pruning and tying in winter, disbudding in spring, trellising in summer, leading up to the harvest in autumn.
Committed since the early 2000s to sustainable viticulture, we have concretized this approach by obtaining Viticulture Durable (VDC) and High Environmental Value level 3 (HVE) certifications.
Our philosophy
Observe, understand, respect.
Our approach is based on an in-depth knowledge of the vineyard, nurtured by a collective network for plot monitoring and constant observation of their evolution.
We favor natural practices to support the vines throughout their cycle.
This work of precision is essential for preparing the harvest. Each plot is rigorously monitored: bunch counting, regular sampling, maturity control (sugar, acidity, sanitary state) in August and September, to determine the optimal date for harvesting.
The harvest brings together a team of about thirty people, welcomed, housed, and fed at the estate, in keeping with family tradition.
A moment of sharing, conviviality, and collective energy.
Explanation
During the harvest, our grapes are entrusted to the Chigny-les-Roses Cooperative, which is closely linked to our history. This is where the pressing and vinification take place, under the watchful eye of our cellar master, Chloé, who ensures that the full potential of our harvest is revealed.
Each year, we gather to taste and create the blends together. The wines are then aged in our cellars for two to five years.
Time, combined with precise dosage, allows us to achieve the balance and maturity that define the style of our Champagnes, offering you a tasting experience that is both authentic and refined.
